The AppStore is great! I have played with it a bit today and the usage is really really simple. I downloaded a couple of nice apps and games and I just wanted to share with you what it is like.

First of all, downloading and buying only takes a couple of clicks and filling in your iTunes password (which is a good thing).

The apps/games installed on my iPhone are:

Bomberman
I have always been a big fan of Bomberman and there is no gaming platform where I didn’t get this game. I must say that the game look nice, but I expected better. The controls need some getting used to, but that is just a matter of time.

Aqua Forest
I saw this game/play-thing in a youtube movie a couple of days back and I just needed to get this. It’s some sort of water simulation, with gravity and all. You can draw on the screen, where you want water (or obstacles) to appear. It’s fun, but it has no ‘mission’ or anything.

Aurora Feint The Beginning
This is actually a nice game, which is a sort of iZoo. You make lines of 3 or more icons in a vertical or horizontal row. This game adds another dimension by letting you turn the phone 90 degrees and involving gravity and stuff. Really really neat.
The more points you score, the more stuff you unlock and the more options you get (I think :P ).

Twinkle
A location based twitter client, where you can see people chatting in your own neighborhood. It looks really nice and it is easy to use. I did come across a couple of bugs, causing the application to hang and even restarting my phone.

Remote
Does this need explanation? You can control any iTunes on the same network with this, as long as your iPhone is approved for that iTunes. It’s very nice when you are using a media-center (like me) and you don’t always want to turn on the TV just to play some music. Too bad that iTunes cannot be started remotely, so that still needs to be done by turning on the TV or logging in via Remote desktop.

Jive
Also a sort of iZoo kind of game, which also includes making lines of 3 or more from the same type. It looks pretty neat and friendly, with comic animal faces.

To sum it all up, till now the AppStore rocks! Hope they will release some turn-by-turn navigation soon. That would make the phone extremely cool :D

Since a couple of weeks I am the proud owner of another game for the Xbox 360, namely Civilization Revolution.

First lets do some history about the game, well it’s more my history with the game:
The first game of this serie was released in 1991 (I got that from Wikipedia) and that was the time that I went to high-school. This was one of the games that was actually played most back then in my class. Almost daily we were bragging about the huge cities we built and which technologies we had found!

Those were the days….

So, this must be the slowest post about Halo 3. But I picked up playing Halo 3 just today and I am not really sure what all the fuss is about.

I just reached the city Voi in the game, I don’t think I am that far yet, but I must say there are a couple of things that bug me in this game.

  • The controls… please, there is something wrong with them. I can’t really pinpoint what it is, but after a couple of hours play, I still can’t find the right button sometimes.
  • Getting stuck with those damn vehicles. I have been stuck with vehicles between all kinds of stuff. From pretty small rock to crashed cars. That really sucks.
  • Loading times, I know the loading between levels is probably THIS long, just to make sure you don’t get many loading screens on checkpoints, but holy cow, this game takes AGES to load. Why was this better on the first Xbox, where games were just buffered to the harddrive? Why not bring an option like the Playstation (by far a worse machine than the Xbox) has, “copy game to harddrive”.
  • Weapon clutter when trying to pick stuff up. When a lot of bad guys die, there are loads of weapons on the ground. When I try to grab a new weapon, but it’s somewhere where a couple of guys died, it takes me a couple of tries to get the weapon I need. VERY annoying in the middle of battle.

The gameplay is not much different than Halo 2, which wasn’t one of my favorite games, so I probably won’t finish this game. It’s just not worth my time.

Call of Duty 4 is the newest game in the Call of Duty series and it really rocks! When playing in multi-player, you have loads of extra’s, challenges, perks and weapons to unlock.

I gathered some information about these things, just to make a clear list of stuff that is unlockable. I hope you will find this information useful. Also, because the post was getting really long, I splitted the info onto multiple pages, to make it easier to read.

Page 1: Main page
Page 2: Ranks and unlockables
Page 3: Weapon Challenges
Page 4: Bootcamp Challenges
Page 5: Operations Challenges
Page 6: Killer Challenges
Page 7: Humiliation Challenges
Page 8: Elite Challenges
Page 9: Golden Guns
Page 10: Multiplayer Maps (New!)

Edit: I editted the pages so they would include the Elite Challenges… dumb ass thing was that I had them all along, posted under the Humiliation Challenges.

Edit (July 3rd 2008) So, today I finally had time to update the Call of Duty lists.

I added a new page, showing the maps in multiplayer. You can go to that page, by clicking here or by just clicking the banner on top of this page and click page 10.

This week will be a very busy week… I just got back from a 10 day break from work, but things never stop piling up…. it seems.

Next to work I got a couple of projects that keep me busy at home too. There’s computer stuff:

Getting my server to run fluintly on MacOS-X
Because that stupid HyperV kept crashing on me lately, I got the idea to actually install MacOS-X on my server, to see how it performs. My server is a pretty hefty beast, running a nice Quadcore Q9450 CPU and 12 GB of RAM. I got it installed yesterday and it seems pretty stable, accept some ‘minor’ issues (will post that later on).

If you want to read more of my wining, click ‘more’…. (more…)
